2 SUMMITS - MADE EASY
MEDIUM-LENGTH HIKE AT MERANO 2000, SOUTH TYROL
MITTAGER AND WINDSPITZ IN ONE DAY
The journey is the reward... especially in the mountains. However there is also the satisfaction, the feeling with which we are rewarded, when we overcome an obstacle or even our own limitations, when we achieve a goal that we have set ourselves.
Arrive at the top and simply change your perspective, marvelling at the panorama – surrounded by the seemingly endless skies – and the breath-taking scenery. Everyday life recedes far into the background, problems feel smaller, the blood flows more vigorously through our veins.
If you want to enjoy a sunny day, without great effort and without foregoing the satisfaction of having scaled the heights... here is our tip!

HAPPINESS SQUARED TWO SUMMITS IN ONE DAY
From the Ropeway Merano 2000 mountain station take trail no.3 till hiking trail no. 18A into the rearward hiking area, a valley, where two types of rock meet, granite and porphyry blocks come together here to form a fascinating landscape with many vantage points.
In 1,5 - 2 hours you will reach the Mittager chair lift, which will take you conveniently up to 2.300 metres.
From there you need to negotiate an increase in altitude of 100 metres on trail no. 13A as far as the first summit, the 2.390 metre high "Windspitz". The sight of the powerful Ivigna, whose silhouette feels almost close enough to touch here, and the view of the Dolomites are ample reward for your initial exertions.
A gulp of water and an apple are just the right thing now before turning away from the Windspitz to follow the turnoff to the “Mittager” summit at 2.422 metres.

Take a moment to look inside yourself.
Once up there you will be surrounded by a 360º panorama taking in Lake Caldaro in southern South Tyrol, the Sarentino Valley, the summits of the Passiria Valley, the distinctive skyline of the Dolomites, and even as far as the Ortles, the highest peak in South Tyrol, as well as Merano and its nearby valleys.
Now sit down on the expansive pastures and take a moment to look inside yourself. Doesn’t it feel good to be so far away from the hustle and bustle of the city?
On the way back, stop off at the Mittager refuge hut, just before the chair lift, and marvel at the huge flock of sheep that grazes peacefully on the pasture. Perhaps there will be someone who is happy to take a selfie with you...
The return journey follows the same route that you took to get here. If you still have plenty of energy and would like to extend your hike, you can go on foot from the "Mittager" to the Meraner Hut, then continue on to the Piffing mountain station (trail no.: 13A-18A).
And a delicious plate of South Tyrolean dumplings in one of the many ralpine cottages on the way back is a treat not to be missed.
! OUR TIP: Use all open facilities with the Summer-Day-Ticket and comfortably reach the spectacular viewpoint at Mittager with the Cableway Naifoch and the chairlift Mittager.
INFO: Chairlift Mittager closed from 14.10.2024!
