SYMBIOSIS OF SPACE AND ENVIRONMENT AT CUBUS RESTAURANT IN MERANO 2000
As you ascend to the mountain station of the Merano 2000 cable car, first you notice the rough exposed concrete of the Ropeway building with its light red cladding, before your eyes travel to the city of Merano in the valley, with the Dolomites on the left and Ortles on the right.
These distinctive and award-winning architectural components of the Ropeway and the breathtaking panoramic view are essential elements played with in the new CUBUS Restaurant at the mountain station: here, concrete and glass merge in symbiosis, just like the interior and the mountain environment outside.
DISTINCTIVE PRESENCE WITH NEW NEEDS
Since its inception alongside the Ropeway Merano 2000 in 2010, over the years the former Panorama Bistro has developed new requirements. These include new movement flows in and out of the kitchen and the need for better use of the large adjacent space.
The former bistro, once for quick stops, has increasingly become a restaurant catering to longer stays by visitors. "These new demands placed on the structure and the need for more seating were the starting point for the renovation works in collaboration with the Biquadra interior design studio. The premises will reopen under the new name CUBUS Restaurant," says Andreas Zanier, president of Merano 2000 Funivie Spa.
NEW LOOK, NEW HOST, NEW MENU
The new CUBUS Restaurant is daily open during the opening hours of the Ropeway Merano 2000 and primarily offers Italian specialties and homemade pasta. Tel.: +39 345 219 09 91

BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN
Large windows offer breathtaking views and create points of contact between the surrounding mountain ranges and the town of Merano in the valley. Materials such as felt and fabric in various earth tones and warm shades of grey create a cosy atmosphere and encourage relaxation. Chairs and tables of varying heights cater to different seating needs – from a quick coffee to a leisurely lunch.
Oak furniture strikes a balance between traditional material and modern design, while fabric elements provide warmth and tranquillity after a busy day in the mountains.
ALL IN RED
The characteristic shade of red from the valley and mountain stations of the Ropeway Merano 2000 is subtly echoed with various shades in the bar area, without replicating the original tone, thus creating a nod to the adjacent lift facility. The Open Family Room next door has been reduced due to the expansion of the dining room but still offers a cosy retreat for everyone.
